“An Impressive Start”

Pablo Picasso portrait in conté, charcoal and pastel on a recycled Telegraph Journal. Interesting textual connections on this page “Salon” and “Vermeer”. Picasso was a frequent visitor of Gertrude Stein’s salon in Paris. Pablo reportedly once remarked “I would give the whole of Italian painting for Vermeer of Delft”. The newspaper sheet from 2013 refers to the 100th Anniversary of Saint John’s Imperial Theatre. It also marks the 100th Anniversary of the Armory Show of 1913 which marked the “Modern Art Invasion” to the US and featured Picasso’s works (among others). The show was criticized by the public and the press.
