“San Francisco”

Latest newspaper portrait featuring Bobby Seale.  We’re back to a Michel Foucault connection with this current work and the previous piece “Why Suffer?”. Foucault has been featured previously in “Foucault”, “Power Play” and “Space for Lease” in my 2014 Paintings and Drawings . In Brady Thomas Heiner’s ‘Foucault and the Black Panthers’ (City, 2008) the article traces the evolution of Foucault’s later writing on biopower and the disciplinary society on his encounters with the Black Panther struggles. Heiner asks why Foucault committed ‘epistemic violence’ by not acknowledging the Black Panthers as an inspiration for his conceptual framework.

Enjoy!
